Swipe right on the Jaecoo J7

by Byron Lukas

When the Jaecoo J7 appeared, it radiated that bold, boxy elegance like a suit tailored by Cupid himself. Its striking grille and Rolley-like cheekbones (think tall, vertical slats and slim LED DRLs) gave me an instant love-at-first-sight experience. It’s as if Range Rover style collided with Chinese ingenuity for a passionate encounter.

Under the bonnet: the real seduction

Lift the bonnet to reveal a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine producing 145kW and 290Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, this SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just over 8 seconds – a pleasant surprise for a vehicle that looks this stylish. The Glacier’s front-wheel-drive system maintains a sporty feel, while the 7.0 L/100km fuel consumption means you’ll rarely need to stop for fuel.

It’s giving cosy…

Step inside, and the Jaecoo J7 Glacier welcomes you with open arms – or rather, with heated and ventilated seats. The 14.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system responds as quickly as a good date, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cabin is spacious, with ambient lighting creating the perfect atmosphere, and a panoramic sunroof that lets you enjoy the stars – or the sun, depending on your mood.

The boot offers a generous 412 litres, expanding to a spacious 1,335 litres when the seats are folded; ideal for DIY shopping, beach gear, or late-night snack runs. Jaecoo didn’t compromise on safety. The Glacier is equipped with eight airbags, including front, side, and curtain airbags, as well as a driver knee airbag. Stability control, traction control, and brake assist come as standard, ensuring you and your passengers are well-protected on every journey.

Just the two of us

Driving the Jaecoo J7 Glacier is like going on a first date with someone who keeps the conversation lively. The ride is smooth, the handling is responsive, and the cabin remains impressively quiet, even at motorway speeds. Whether you’re navigating city streets or cruising along the open road, the Glacier makes every journey feel like a special occasion.
